Ray Wenderlich - Setting Up/Initial Exploration

OK, here we go with Ray! Having consolidated over Lynda, which was useful, I'm ready to dive headfirst into Ray's courses. There is a lot of content on his site and I have paid 20 dollars for this month - money very well spent hopefully. Anyway, this has a new intro with a mention of UI part. I will be making two apps. The issue here is that I have followed this stuff before - a year and several months ago. This may well be recap then. Oh well, good and necessary to go over before moving onto the more complex stuff.

Start Time -19:12

1. Intro

That is what we're covering!

The Hands-On Challenge sound exciting - stuff to do on my own. This course is based on a book...don't know much about that so leaving that for now.

2. Swift UI

Ok so something new after all! The key point here is being able to visualise your work as you go. Cool! Supposed to be the best way of making new apps.

Not many experts on it yet...which has some downsides but I'll be getting a head start.

It only works on iOS13 or later. So most companies won't be able to use this for a little while.

Ray recommends to start learning UI to be prepared for the future.

*Paused for 20 minutes - clearing up space on disk to try to install new Xcode

3. Challenge - to do list for what is needed for the app

OK, I like these and it is something from Ray that has actually stuck in a good way...

To Do List

4. Getting Started With Swift UI

Paused at 19:47 to restart computer (save entry now!)

So I've had to stop there (approx 20 minutes so far).

Issues with updating Xcode - freeing space not working. So I will continue the entry tomorrow!

Tomorrow never happened! I had to do a BIG clear out - lots of space needed for the Xcode update. Eventually I did and it's now a few days later! So going to continue with where we got to with Ray's first course...

Start Time - 17:11

Right first time on Xcode 11! The layout is new and cool! Some new stuff to get used to...

Right so issue - the MacOs is not installed - not sure how to do that but the comments indicate that it will come as an update soon.

OK, so I've decided. I have to leave this for now! Without the update, there is no point following along. Until I have the right software - whenever that is available, I will leave off this course as the only way of learning will be doing it alongside Ray!

Finish Time 17:26 (35 minutes total)

Depending on what I can use software-wise, I will possibly be going to the other Ray course (the initial coder's one if I need to).
