Nick Walter Swift 5 Course - Part 5 (lectures 27 to 34)

Image
The roll continues! Last time, it was a focus on consolidating the challenge from Nick (which had MANY tricky elements!) and then finding out what's new with Swift 5. All of that was positive and I feel like I gleaned various useful bits from it.  This time it will be a focus on  Swift Package Manager;  I'm not sure what this is - I assume that it's to do with building own custom code or possibly modules... Anyway, we will see! Start Time - 14:23 Making Your Own Package So terminal is needed. Right so the first bit was OK but it did not like 'exit'! Strange... OK back out and into it and I've created the directory using Terminal. Cool! OK so a lot of what to run from terminal, how to link to Xcode... All of that worked but I don't see the point of it yet, to be honest. From what I've gathered, it's about the use of having Terminal directly interacting with the Xcode file - having the results come up on terminal and working betwe...

Angela Yu Xcode 12 Course - Part 19 (lectures 185 to 190)

Two entries in a day?! Yes! Well the previous one was more of a 'what I did before' so not that much of an achievement, really. Anyway, I am going back to Angela's course after a brief detour for my own project. I've already got an idea for another project, a much more tricky one - Guess Who! With that, I would have a number of different pictures i.e. 16. The computer would randomly choose one, then the player would select questions to eliminate the pictures that do not match to it. Until there is just one left - number of questions it took gives them a score. Anyway, leaving that for now and doing some more learning! Let's go! Start Time - 15:52 Flash Chat App This has got about storing data - cloud-based. That could be really interesting. Also table view controller...again something else that I want to know more about. Firebase, cocoa pods....so some technical stuff again! Firebase A service from google. It has cloud based infrastructure to sav...

Angela Yu Xcode 12 Course - Part 18 (lectures 175 to 184)

So this time we're by the pool by RAK! Probably better in terms of wind, sand etc... I've arranged for someone to collect my laptop to replace the screen. Have also ordered a new case and an ant-glare screen cover. All of these things should help and it's worth the money. Well it's a lot of it! 1575 to repair; 200 for anti-glare screen; 50 for cover. Anyway.... Today I'm going to start the Bitcoin tracker challenge. Going to spend an hour on it - maybe more. Let's go! Start Time - 10:27 OK, step 1 is to download the project.. STEP 1 Right, I am not going to type much here as it is pretty much following instructions. Will add anything that's a useful learning point! OK, after putting in the currencyPicker.delegate = self (and the same for the dataSource one), errors come up because we HAVE NOT CONFORMED TO THAT PROTOCOL! That makes sense - we've put in those protocols in the view controller. So those methods need implementing. Ok. Using the...

Angela Yu Xcode 12 Course - Part 17 (lectures 172 to 174)

So I'm back on the beach in RAK! *Also, yesterday's entry was supposed to be part 16, not 15 again -  hence why we're now at 17. That many parts is a good, solid effort! Right - today I'm focusing on the command line terminal. I know that there is a command button on the keyboard and that it opens up certain shortcuts. But that's about it! So let's just focus on that for today. Possibly going to have a look at the Bitcoin tracker challenge later! *Also it's pretty windy here but I'm not so concerned about the screen - I have to get that replaced soon anyway.  Start Time - 12:31 Command Line Terminal The bash shell - analogy here is with a pistachio nut... Mac OS is the nut. The kernel is the actual core, what is used for the programming. The shell is the user interface - how you interact with the programme. Command Line - alternative way of interacting with the kernel! Bash - Bourne Again Shell! This is a CLI - command line interpreter for th...

Angela Yu Course Part 14 (Lectures 134 to 145)

I'm back! Having tried out Ray Wenderlich's course (started off well but tailed considerably, especially after the other instructor came in), Pasan's Intermediate one on Treehouse (some interesting theory but not enough challenges to make the content applicable) and Chris Ching's beginner's course (a great consolidation with tough challenges at the end), I've concluded that Angela's course is the best. So I'm going back to hers! With her course, I created apps of increasingly complexity and interest, with great explanations and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Last time it was about constraint views, which wasn't the most exciting; at that point (back in July or whenever it was), I figured it was time to try out other purchased courses. However, I can see now that hers was the best - in all ways. So thank you Angela for this course as hopefully it's just what I need right now! Clima App Right, this is the app I'm going to be making! I'...
